This year, Bruen Chapel was so blessed to have Daniel Viehland as a seminary intern. We are thankful for Daniel’s wisdom, humor, vision, and energy these last few months! We look forward to giving a proper lunch send off soon and welcoming him whenever he can come this summer. Daniel’s official intern duties wrapped up yesterday with a sermon on justifying and sanctifying grace:
“In this way too we are saved and God is saving the world and God’s kingdom is among us. In a world that is so riven with fear and hatred and violence, we need a movement of the Spirit of love that, when we look in the eyes of the other, lets see the eyes of our savior staring back at us. In a world with battle lines drawn around politics and religion, we need a saving grace that pushes us to embody the all encompassing love of a God that can eat with the tax collector and the anti-Roman zealot, that heals the servants of the centurion and the high priest, as well as the outcast lepers. We need a Spirit led movement that witnesses to the church built by Christ, a church that draws all people in, regardless of race or gender or social status or sexual orientation. We are saved by a faith that embodies the perfect love of Christ, and it is through that faith that God is working to save and redeem the world.”
