Starting this week, we are going to make the lectionary* Bible readings for the week available mid-week on our homepage. We hope you will use this as a new way to engage with our worship on Sundays through Facebook Live as well as draw inspiration from our faith as you read and study at home throughout the week.
Our scripture passages are:
- Acts 2:14a, 36-41
- Psalm 116:1-4, 12-19
- 1 Peter 1:17-23
- Luke 24:13-35
You are welcome to read these in your favorite Bible at home or they are all online right here. We hope you will embark on this lectionary journey with us.
*Lectionary is just a fancy church word for the scriptures (Hebrew Bible, New Testament, Psalm (or other song/poem), and Gospel) for the week. There’s a schedule to help pastors and congregations cycle through the church year and to make sure there’s a good rotation of scripture, in terms of topics, themes, and passages. Some passages are more challenging than others, and the lectionary helps to make sure each gets its due.
Like many other churches, Bruen Chapel follows the lectionary most of the time, meaning that our pastor typically preaches on at least one of the scripture passages for the Sunday sermon.
