Lent is a 40 day period before Easter that recalls Jesus’s time of struggle in the wilderness with temptation before beginning his ministry.
The ashes remind us of our mortality and Christ’s offer of new life in perfect fellowship with God as these words are repeated: “Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return. Repent and believe the gospel!”
